Good blog for those who like Graffiti
PAH! (pants) Hard to keep holding my breath for a new Planet TV episode.
Ah well. I have a question.
Guillermo Gonzalez postulated a Galactic Habitable Zone (GHZ), a region 7 to 9 kiloparsecs (23,000 to 29,000 light-years) from the galactic center {and some 6,000 light years in width (2 kiloparsecs), containing stars roughly 4 billion to 8 billion years old}, where conditions are best suited to the development and survival of life as we know it.
Now a GHZ is different from a Circumstellar Habitable Zone (CHZ) this is a notional spherical shell of space surrounding a star where liquid water will be sustained on a planet’s surface. Beyond the outer edge, a planet will not receive enough solar radiation to make up for radiative losses, leaving water to freeze. A planet closer than the inner edge of this zone will absorb too much radiation, boiling away surface water. We used to call this the “water belt” (WB) and for the the sake of clarity, this is the term I will use.
So here’s my question…
If one star creates a WB, then in theory a stellar cluster should as well. Think of it, the galactic core as a life-giving sun. So…
Does the galactic core, if treated as one massive stellar cluster, create a “water belt” (GCWB) where any planet within a star system (outbound from it’s native CHZ) would still sustain liquid water on the surface? If so, what is the size of this GCWB?
Disclaimer: Since we are discussing the oldest stars & star systems in the galaxy, it is granted the GCWB in question is probably so close to the galactic core that the planets have long since been baked into wrinkled, dried out husks (not unlike Tommy Chong), but that’s not the point!
Don’t know if that is on par with atmospheric popcorn, but it’s worth a shot.
I have been watching your podcasts for a loooong time.
Def before you had your child.
I loved your show back then, and I love it now.

I was watching Garrett Lisi on TedTalks and I thought of a question for Lucian: Did mathematics describe the universe into being, or did the universe describe mathmatics into being? Does it make a difference which choice is correct?
I’m sorry to hear that you was attacked in this way and i srsly can’t understand why ppl would want to take down your show.. exept from some politicians
. It’s good to see you survived it and i’m looking forward to more planetTV. But i wouldn’t say so loud that they stand no chance of takin you down because that gives them a reason (to proove themselves.. anyways.. good to see u back
great program, just found planetTV through MIRO… man have I been under a rock….keep it coming!
Hey Lucian, wanted to say I love the show. Nice editorial piece.Talk to you soon.
Hey, from Detroit. Just found your show. It’s awesome.
Nice news., guy
Lucian,
Thanks for the great Podcast and AOE PaudioBook! Is there an AOE Audible book on the horizon? Take care – Kev
I do enjoy your story, but just one thing bugs me. Often you change tenses from present to past in the same “paragraph” (I.e. She looked back and then she sees …”. )
Please try to be consistent in your tense! It distracts from the otherwise very interesting writing.
@Liaivoniam –
Hey Lucian Pete from Canada here.
Most Canadians second favorite sport after hockey would have to be American Politics. That said, although I agree with your editorial comments, I’m not sure calling a segment of your own population “knuckeheads” doesn’t push people to the opposite point of view.
Secondly, although I never considered Matt Damen particularly intelligent, you may want to share his comments on Sarah Palin. He swung my imaginary vote when he pointed out the fact that the chances are very high she will become president if/when McCain dies while on the throne. The thought of a young and inexperienced hockey mom running the most powerful nation on the planet is scarey to say the least.
nice work, brother
your show is the best! can you extend your show for like an hour or so. just requesting, hope u don’t mind. thanks lucian.
Hi Harry, from Florida. Thanks for the shout and compliment.

Hey Dennis, I’m recording the next chapter right now.
Hey, any idea when the next Ancients of Eden chapter will be up? Can’t wait to hear more.
Hey Baxter, Great question! I’ll have to think on that one a little bit.
Great show as always!
BTW I have a Lucian’s Solutions question!
If dropped into Earth’s atmosphere, would a kernel of popcorn, pop, before being incinerated by re-entry?
Bwahahahahahahahaha!
Hey everyone, we’re in the middle of a hurricane!
WooHoo! New Planet TV Show!
Oh… should mention, all the feeds work just fine on a Zune. You no need that Apple stuff
@adinfinitum –
I feel kinda bad saying this, I love all the stuff, but 19 was bad for me. The use of the tern “fat little penguin” didn’t fit with the character, and it was used way to much. I found it was distracting me from the actual important updates to the plot.
Sorry L. You know everybody loves ya though anyway right? I’m just trying to be constructive. I’m still hooked on the book and await 20 with anticipation.
Hi from Sydney Australia. Have been enjoying your book en-route to work and return. Particularly enjoy your alternative science/history references. They make me need to research them after each chapter. Hope we don’t have to wait too long between chapters again
It’s not like you have anything else to do… right?
Wow! Amazing story.
My first podcast subscription starting in 2007, I haven’t missed a show!
neat show

Hey Milez5858, Thanks for the shout from Canada.
Love the Ancients. Hello from Edmonton Alberta Canada. I’m not sure my boss would love the ancients though. I’ve spent all morning researching the background… then gone off topic into the Mayan Calendar, and now I can read Mayan base 20 Mathematics. (not sure how that happened).
Anyway… I’m only starting chapter 3, but looking forward to more. I love when real history/science and imagination collide.
Hey Insanto, Thanks for noticing. Most of the stuff on the site is from plugins that I have altered. Let me know what your interested in and I’ll get you the links.
i like your new style, nice java where did you get the idea?
