Planet TV has the only realistic and affordable solution to provide EVERY rural resident in the country with wireless broadband. This plan is faster, cheaper and has a lower carbon footprint than any other cable, fiber or wireless idea. It is based on a civilian version of an AWACS plane and the old Stratovision concept from the late 1940’s.

Your approach has been and is still being actively researched. Putting a sizeable communications payload in flight is easy to do, but keeping it up there all day, every day WHILE making a profit is still economically unviable. Satellite communications still wins the day, and will do it for the foreseeable future.
The only case where an airborne platform might make sense is when you have the need to very quickly deploy a high speed network over a moderate size region with little regard for cost. This is a perfect description of a US Army or FEMA deployment, who have the money to do it on their own and still use satcom as their first choice.
The devil is in the details, and more often than not unprofitability kills beautiful ideas.
